hyg·ge

/ˈh(y)o͞oɡə,ˈho͝oɡə/

Have you heard about hygge? If not, you will soon. Lately, it’s everywhere we look and the Mantra Mask team is loving it. Come on, let’s get hygge!

noun

noun: hygge

a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture).“why not follow the Danish example and bring more hygge into your daily life?”

To us, hygge is cozy, charming, cocooning, slowing down, contentment, togetherness, nourishment and really enjoying the simple pleasures of life. I think of big cozy blankets and the perfect cup of hot chocolate while nestled on the couch with my family around me. Just perfection!

This winter we at Mantra Mask are trying to bring more hygge into our lives… here’s how we are doing it, share your ideas below!

  1. SLOW DOWN. Give yourself one night a week to order dinner in (no kitchen clean-up), no laundry (not even a load!), no electronics (phone on silent), low lights, lots of candles, light a fire in the fireplace, and just be with the ones you love. OR – just you and your book! Life would be so much more hygge if we took one night to re-charge. I guarantee you will look forward to this night all week.

  2. Put down the phone and pic up a book. Stop scrolling and start reading. Reading a good book is so much more nourishing for the mind, and it’s relaxing, not anxiety inducing.

  3. Treat yourself to a few new cozy pillows and a super soft throw for your couch – make it a nest you want to dive in to.

  4. Streamline your bathroom. Put all the extra riff-raff out of site. Create a spa like feeling.

  5. Let go of guilt. Don’t feel guilty taking time out every day to read, stretch, nap, rest, or sit with a cup of coffee. These things make you a healthier and calmer person – hygge!

We hope this inspires you to be more hygge. And of course what could be more hygge than getting into comfy clothes, turning down the lights, lighting a candle, and putting on a Mantra Mask! Forced time to relax while being so good to your skin.

Happy Hygge everyone!
